Some great blog posts to share

I hate blogs that only consist of links and so far I have managed to avoid making a post purely of links. However the past few weeks a couple of great posts have caught my eye so I thought I would share them with you:

B L Ochman on How to Write Kickass Twitter Posts

A great top 17 list of how to use Twitter – my personal favourites:

Don’t be pedantic. We don’t care what you’re eating for lunch, or that you just woke up.

Don’t be promiscuous with the “Follow” button. There are only so many hours in a day.

Carter Lusher from HP AR on Will established analyst firms become dinosaurs to the new media-oriented analysts?

Started a fascinating conversation regarding analysts migration to new media.

Established firms had better join Gartner on the new media bandwagon or risk been seen as so last century.

Jon Swift on Facebook Declares War on the Blogosphere

Jon was kicked out of Facebook for using a pseudonym… and then reinstated. I was initially puzzled by this as the online world is saturated with avatars  – maybe people will have to start being more open about their identities?

Are all bloggers who use pseudonyms “fake” in the eyes of Facebook? Hath not a blogger eyes? Hath not a blogger hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? Fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer? If you poke us, do we not bleed?

Jeremiah Owyang on Explaining OpenSocial to your Executives

The social networking world got turned on its head this week when the undisputed leader (Facebook) found new competition in the guise of opensocial. This is a partnership between Google and MySpace which many critics are saying could be groundbreaking. In case you are asked what all this means – Jeremiah has created a nice summary.

Although we’re at the unproven starting point, the opportunity is promising, companies wanting to extend their online presence should consider the distributed web (OpenSocial) into their 2008 web strategy planning

  1. I actually like it when the occasional blog posts links to memorable posts, with a short explanation of why it’s memorable.

When someone just spams their blog with links, I usually unsubscribe, no matter how good their other posts are.

  2. Thanks for your comment Eric and couldn’t agree more.

There are several people that in their desire to

    a) provide link love
    b) ensure they post frequently

end up only having link-blogs. I am very happy to read comments that tell me why I should go there and have a read but purely a bunch of links? nah – I don’t think so.
